One thing that always bothered me in Korea is the inability to get a beer for a decent price. It’s not that beer is so expensive, but at most restaurants/bars you are almost always forced to order food if you want a drink. That’s bananas. I just want to sit down at a pub and have a beer. It’s this quest, to beer without food, that’s repeatedly led me to Gecko’s.
Gecko’s has everything a great bar needs. Decently-priced drinks, darts (real darts btw), lots of people, lots of tables, plenty of bar seating, terrace tables (which I don’t recommend in the summer because of mosquitos), good food, and workers that speak English. It’s also conveniently located next to Itaewon Station (exit 4, directly across from Hamilton Hotel) and so makes for an easy meeting location. Most importantly, I’ve always had a great time here.
I’ve only ordered two food items here: fries and chicken wings. Unfortunately I didn’t take a picture of either. The fries were a great value – a full plate of very fresh fries for about 7,000. The chicken wings were less so – a meager 7 wings for about 9,000. But to their credit, tasty. All the proper American sauces are on hand – tobasco, ranch, ketchup, mustard, bbq, etc. Standard pub fare.
The drinks are decent enough. I can be a snob about properly made drinks and this place has never let me down. Their dry gin martinis are properly dry, unlike most I get in Korea, and their Bloody Mary’s are well made with V8.
Me and my friends saying hi. :)

The Rundown
A great watering hole directly opposite Hamilton Hotel. Can get loud on weekends but sports plenty of seats, real dart boards, reasonably priced drinks, and good food. One of my favorite places in Itaewon.
